These are questions asked by my students while learning about Greek mythology. I teach 6th grade English Language Arts to a great group of ethnically diverse, economically challenged kids in NYC. They are in my honors class and always go above and beyond what is expected in their classwork and projects. They were so excited by the action in Greek mythology, that I wanted to keep the ball rolling. My Project: A class set of The Titan's Curse Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #3 will be the perfect compliment to our study of Greek mythology. After my students have a strong understanding of who the Greek gods and goddesses were, we can move on to a contemporary version of them. The Percy Jackson series is hugely popular because it blends the action of the old myths with the modern world. My kids will use this book as part of their unit on Greek mythology and will create a storyboard of the plot when we complete the book. We will also do an author's study of Rick Riordan using his new book about Egyptian mythology. Your generosity will bring the world of ancient myths to life for my students. A knowledge of the classics will help my students in all of their future literary endeavors. AS you well know, Greek mythology has been an inspiration to authors for more than 2,000 years. These books will help my students make connections between genres and authors. hide» My students need 30 copies of The Titan's Curse Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #3. details»
