My Students

I teach 6th grade Non-Fiction Reading, a class that combines the oft-forgotten skills of reading non-fiction texts with the content of their Social Studies curriculum, to a group of students who need to be engaged in reading. They are great kids who thrive when a good book is placed in their hands.

I have an extensive library of books for my students to pick from, but I lack books that will connect with the content of the class.

My students need challenging and engaging books to keep them excited about learning and coming to school. They come to school more often when they have something they look forward to.

My Project

I am asking for several different texts about Ancient Egypt, Greece, China, Rome, and the Americas. I have included various levels of texts that students can use in the classroom, as well as an abundance of the well-loved Magic Tree House books that will not only give my students engaging material about our subject area, but will also give students books that they can take home with them. At the end of every unit, students with high attendance will be given the Magic Tree House books to keep as their own.

By doing so, kids will not only become more engaged with Ancient History, but they will be rewarded for high attendance by being able to keep these books and build their own library.
