My Students

Help keep the cameras rolling for our broadcasting class!

With the help of our local cable company, I launched a broadcasting class to help broaden the limited number and variety of electives available in our small high school of less than 200 students.

The class covers the three phases of video production: planning, shooting video, and editing. This year's class covered many sporting events, interviewed people in the community, helped the local cable company produce a documentary about the Coast Guard, created a music video, and created a promotional video for the school. The best part for the students is their work is shown on our local cable channel for all to see. Due to the popularity of the class this year, my enrollment for next year has doubled from five to ten students. I am now in desperate need now for more software and equipment.

My Project

At the moment, I have only one license of Final Cut Express, the software we use to edit the student work. I need another copy to provide another station for editing to accommodate the additional students I have next year and the additional projects we want to take on. Editing is the most time consuming part of creating a video so the more editing stations I have, the quicker the students can get their videos produced and out for the community to enjoy.

This class is about so much more than just video production.

It gives the students a chance to interact directly with the community, and provide a service to promote the community. The students love the class because they love the constant positive feedback they community gives. A few students have told me they are glad they took the class because they never would have thought of a career in broadcasting without it. Please help me expand the success of this class!
