My Students

Do you remember the first time you were asked to write a story? Students are always asked to write "creative" stories, but they don't always have the life experiences or tools to be creative. I would like to give them the tools.

My students are "Gifted" testing in the top 2% of the population in IQ.

They are full of potential, but don't have the tools to reach that potential. I try to find their interests and then provide the tools for them to excel at their interests. It's amazing how excited the students are when they understand they have tools to help them become experts in whatever it is they choose. This year they are interested in becoming authors.

My Project

This past year I have spent a lot of time researching children and writing and the benefits of same-sex learning environments. The research supports that writing is one of the subjects most affected by same-sex learning. My students are going to be embarking on a writing project where they will meet once a week with their same-sex peers and develop their writing skills. The materials I have requested will support my teaching and their writing both. I hope this project will not only enhance their writing so that they perform better on the state tests, but create true writers of my students.

Communication is the key to globalization and success in all worlds.

In this age of electronic communication, I fear our students are losing the art of writing. I want to encourage and support my students' writing and by funding this project you will be too.
