Yogamazing!

My students need 40 exercise mats to do YOGA when we have inside recess, which in our snowy state happens a lot!

My Students

Kids have a lot of stress these days and staying inside at recess only magnifies that stress! We have a lot of snow in Utah and the kids are required to stay inside. Doing YOGA would help them exercise and enjoy their indoor recess days!

The students in my class are very active and like to work hard and play hard.

A lot of them have the need to relieve stress either on the playground or through other activities like art. I am a certified YOGA instructor and have been teaching them YOGA during their indoor recess times. We have been doing YOGA but have been working with a bathroom towel as our mat and it is very difficult to work with because it bunches up and rolls up during the session. The kids love performing YOGA. They tell me it helps them concentrate better and sleep better at night. The arguments and emotions have stabilized as we have been doing YOGA. It has been great for esteem, fitness and stress relief!

My Project

Our classroom is big enough that after we push the desks back we can have a YOGA session. The kids really enjoy learning this healthy lifestyle skill. They cooperate, listen and copy the YOGA moves very precisely. They are quiet and steady during these times and they are learning about trusting their bodies, being physically fit and active, and learning stress management. They are so enthusiastic for this activity, especially when they have had to miss their outdoor recess time. The YOGA mats would really help. They can be sanitized, folded up in the corner of the room when not in use, and they don't bunch up or roll up like the towels do. These will last a long time and be put to good use by many students for years to come.

Kids need stress relievers and fitness ideas.

They will really benefit from the donations because so many of them can't afford to bring a YOGA mat but want to participate. They've been bringing towels, which are very slippery, bunchy and difficult to use. These donations would be a great boost to our YOGA program.
