My Students

Writing is becoming a lost art. This project will use art to inspire the great writers within our children. This will be a place for 6th graders to create and explore poetry and creative writing. Various papers and writing instruments will be made available to motivate these young authors.

Each fall sixth grade students come to me from three different elementary schools.

These bright, eager students come to middle school for the first time, with a wide variety of learning experiences. The majority of our 550 students is subsidized in some way for lunch. Many students come to school lacking basic school supplies. The dedicated members of our staff and community are generous with donations. As we come together in a new classroom community I want to honor each student's background and move forward with all of the positive possibles in life.

My Project

This motivating area of the classroom with be a highly a sought out choice as students choose independent learning centers. This area will be stocked with a variety of resources to help students become the writer/poet they aspire to be. As a student wouldn't you have loved to visit a the clean table with special books about how to write or spell almost anything. Poetry books, letter writing books, dictionaries, and rhyming books.....to name a few. Then use all sorts of pens, pencils and paper to create cards, letters, poems and stories. This center honors each child. Because it is a self-selected activity it fosters independence and creativity. After meeting the learning targets from lessons, children can create special cards, letters, and poems for the occasions that are important to them. A piece of writing is a one-of-a-kind gift that anyone would cherish.
