Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students learn by doing and then reflecting through pictures. My students love photographs, not only because they can act silly, but it helps them remember all the great things they see and accomplish. Having them choose the moments to capture would enhance their learning experience.

My students are classified as having autism and are from a low income area.

They are inquisitive, fun, and spunky 6-10 year old children who never stop trying. They love technology, art and anything that is hands-on. The hardest things in their lives are how to understand others' feelings, their own emotions and how to express themselves and their desires appropriately.

My Project

For my students I would like a Digital Camera Explorer Kit 6-Pack so they can take turns photographing their lives at school. When we go on trips, myself or the other teachers are always taking pictures. I think it would be great if the students could document their trips from their perspectives. This would allow them to explore times they think are important and allow for more expressive language when reviewing our trips. A HP Photosmart Printer is also helpful because they can learn how to print out pictures and we can review them right away. I have seen that the more freedom they are given to explore their world, the more questions are asked and more learning occurs.

Your support of this project will allow my students to have an even bigger part in their learning experience.

They will be able to share how they see the world and it will allow for more appreciation and respect for others perspectives. You will also be giving them a chance to learn a few new and important skills that will stick with them throughout their lives.
