My Students

Do you remember the joy of choosing a book that you couldn't wait to read without worrying that it might be too hard for you? With these books and CDs my students never have to worry that the book they want will be too difficult for them.

I teach at a public school in Utah.

Our school district has a financial deficit of 30 million dollars this year. This really limits the resources we will be able to provide for the kids. Class sizes will be larger and so needs will be greater. I have a great classroom of kids. I really want to help provide them with the learning materials that will help each of them to grow and learn. We are a diverse group with varied interests. They love to learn and they love to come to school which is so important. I want to help them to always love school and to love reading. To help do this I need materials that will catch their interest and keep them motivated.

My Project

I am requesting a set of 16 books with CD's in a read along kit. The books vary in reading difficulty so there would be choices for students at all reading levels. Each day we do reading rotations. One station that students rotate through is independent reading. They are able to choose a book that they want to read instead of being assigned to read a certain book. By having a book with the matching CD the student is able to choose a harder book than they would be able to read on their own. Listening to a book on CD helps with reading fluency and with a student's vocabulary. Many of my students take the few books that I have and listen to them over and over until they are practically memorized. We would love some new books to choose from and would use them every day. This would especially help my lower readers who get tired of having to always choose an easier book.

I want my students to always love to read.

I want them to have read or heard hundreds of stories during their second grade year. Reading is so important, and hearing stories sends their imaginations soaring. My students love to have their turn getting the CD player and listening to a book as they follow along. Right now I don't have enough CDs to let them do this very often. This library of books and CDs would really give us a boost and be so appreciated. Thank you for considering us.
