This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Why Try in Life?" Help at-risk students find the motivation with a little help from music!

The majority of my students that attend our large public elementary school receive free or reduced lunch and face significant challenges in their homes and neighborhood.

Regardless of their many struggles and the negativity they witness outside of school, they come to through our doors with a desire to succeed.

My Project

I am requesting an apple ipod and boombox stereo with ipod dock to pump music throughout my school! This equipment will be used to encourage and motivate students as they experience the WhyTry Program. I have just completed training in this inspirational program that helps students answer the question "Why Try in Life?" and am gearing up to get my students involved. Incorporating the music component of the program will lead students to make positive changes and beat challenges that come their way. The ipod and stereo will allow me to use the music component of the program throughout the school.

This equipment will impact students throughout my school as they are introduced to the music and lyrics of this engaging program.

The purpose of WhyTry is "to help people achieve opportunity, freedom, and self-respect using education and interventions that motivate and create positive change." For these young students, this type of program is exactly what can keep them motivated towards a bright future.
