My Students

The emergent readers in my classroom are starting to read everything they can find. As a result, some of the students have completed all the available reading material, left in our room. The students would really enjoy reading some of the great children's books.

My school is located in a high need community.

The focus of my classroom is resource assistance for prekindergarten through 3rd grade with a special education focus. However, I also provide scientific research based Response to Intervention (RTI) services for students at risk. Some of my students are pre-readers, who are busy working on phonemic awareness, while others are emergent readers with great imaginations.

My Project

I would like to establish an in room mini-library, with some of the great children's classics, as well as some of the more popular titles. I can envision a sunny corner in our room, where I will display the books. The children will have the option of small group read along sessions with me, modeling fluency, or independent reading after they complete their core work. The best thing about this project is that it will be student-driven, and it will encourage them to use their imagination as they hone their reading skills.

The thoughtful support from you, our donors, will help us to build a wonderful class library.

Together we can lay a literacy foundation for these special students with enjoyable reading experiences. These books will take them to imaginary places that they will remember for a lifetime.
