My Students

"Ready, set, graph!" is the saying of my students as they compete to graph equations and slope in their Pre-Algebra class.

My 8th grade Pre-Algebra students are learning to use the TI 83 Plus graphing calculators for graphing slope, equations, and other components of Pre-Algebra.

We are a small rural school and have a classroom set of 30 TI 83 Plus calculators. I will have 33 students this next year and need 3 more calculators so that each student can have their own calculator. The students are competitive in nature and love to use technology in math class.

My Project

These 3 calculators will ensure that each student has their own calculator to explore and grow as they endeavor to learn Pre-Algebra. This experience will help the students in their future growth of higher mathematics that is required in high school and college. Several of these activities include, but are not limited to, graphing slope, inequalities, plotting data for different graphs, as well as solving equations, functions and expressions. The students will learn these concepts using the calculators which will help them in their future growth.

This project is important because students need their own technology to explore and learn.

Think how awful it would be if two people had a job, sitting side-by-side but only had one calculator to do their jobs. The employees would be less productive to the company they worked for and would not do their jobs to full potential. Students are similar in that they have objectives to learn but they are unproductive when they have to share technology.
