My Students

"Can you buy some new books?" "These books are boring!" "I hate reading!" I want to create an awesome classroom library for my 5th graders that caters to all reading levels, interests and desires.

My students are from Raleigh, NC.

I am teaching 5th grade this fall, and I want to teach my students to love to read. I believe that reading is an escape, and these books are all great books to escape into! I have asked for authors from Patterson to Blume to Lowry to Dahl. You too may remember curling up with one of these books and forgetting all of your troubles. These books will be available for students to read in the classroom and to take home for reading each night. I have tried to choose books for both boys and girls, books that have diverse characters, and books that are at all reading levels.

My Project

Many of my kids are coming to me from very poor homes. They may not own books to read for their 30 minutes of assigned silent reading each night. If students have no car at home to get to the library, this inhibits their ability to get their hands on a good book. This collection will at least put 1 book in each student's hand for the first week of school.

Many of my kids are below grade level.

My goal is for students to make huge gains before they go to 6th grade next fall. Please help me to give my kids a chance. Almost all academic activities require kids to read. These books will give kids a chance to practice their skills in an enjoyable way!
