This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching art without an art textbook? That's right. My school district has no art textbooks! Imagine teaching a subject with no textbook. I provide my art curriculum to the best of my ability, but it would be even better if I had a rich text with pictures to share with the students.

I am the art teacher for an urban public school in a large city.

I have 600 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. We have no art textbooks and not much of a budget for art supplies. My students come from low income homes and do not have access to outside art enrichment. The art experiences I provide for them in school is their sole source of art education.

My Project

An art textbook gives a validity and importance to the arts. It shows students that it is a subject just like math and history. A textbook gives students the opportunity to see pictures of real art and to read about artists, art styles and art history. The book I have chosen is appropriate for all the grades and gives a worldwide overview of art history. It will allow us to all look at the pictures and read the words together as a class. The art in the book will inspire students own work and be the basis for our artmaking experiences.

These books will make the difference in the art education of 600 students at my school.

The books will be used for years to come to inspire and educate me students in visual arts. Art is so rich and expressive. Please help my students have the opportunity to see art images and read about artists and their works. Thank you for your interest in my students and our art program.
