My Students

When you think about your favorite books when you were a child, which ones come to mind? Probably many of the classics, such as Where The Wild Things Are and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day. I want my students to find a love for those classic books loved by so many.

I teach a fabulous group of second graders who are very eager to learn.

They have come a long way in their reading, however, some still need additional help with their reading comprehension. I want to continue to foster my students' love of reading by including some of "the classics" in my reading lessons that will also allow me to address the different components of reading comprehension.

My Project

We need literature units and nine copies each of Where The Wild Things Are and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day literature units and books. These two literature units will engage students because many of them can relate to Max or Alexander. We will get to work on the many essential components of reading comprehension. Students will identify problems and solutions, cause and effect, and the main idea of each story. They will also recognize the correct sequence of events, characters, setting, and plot of the story. These units will give students that extra practice to aid in their reading comprehension.

My students need two literature units: Where the Wild Things Are and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day.

I know that these two books will not only aid in my students' reading comprehension, but will also make them love reading even more than they already do!
