My students need a minimum of 10 microphone headsets to create book trailers and podcasts on books they have read.

My Students

How can we get children excited when talking about books they read? We can get them to talk about books they read by creating podcasts and book trailers. When the students have created the podcasts and booktrailers, they will upload these projects onto a website.

The students creating the podcasts and book trailers are in grades 3, 4, and 5.

Some of these students love to read and they talk about the books they read with others. The students attend an elementary school in a large, urban, and economically disadvantaged city.

My Project

Students will not only learn how to talk about books, but will also get other students interested in reading the books these students have read. Students will apply their writing skills when they write a script and edit. The students will also learn some technology skills, like learning how to create a podcast using software and recording their script using the microphone. Students will learn how to make book trailers by selecting appropriate images, and adding text to the images. Music may also be added to the booktrailer. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will not only talk about books on their grade level, but will also talk about books that appeal to the students in PreK-Grades 2. In addition, students will learn about some great books to read.

When we get ten microphone headsets, that will at least get some of the students started with the project.

Once the word spreads around the school about podcasting and booktrailers, other students will want to read and talk about books, and create their own podcast or booktrailer.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
