Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My student's are just like every other kid. They want to play, laugh and have fun. Sometimes their physical and cognitive abilities hinder their participation. I want to be able to give them every opportunity possible to feel like they belong.

My students are kindergarten through second grade students in an low income, Title 1 inner-city elementary school.

All of my students have moderate to severe disabilities that sometimes make it difficult for them to fully participate with their general education peers. They have limited verbal abilities which also makes it difficult to interact and play games at recess.

My Project

At recess, we ride bikes but some of my students are unable to pedal on their own. A tandem trike will allow a peer to pedal while my student can partake in the fun of riding bikes with friends. Some of my students have never even been on a bike and this will give everyone at our school an opportunity to get exercise and play together.

Sometimes we take advantage of the little things in life.

Playing and hanging out with friends is something all kids do, unless you have a disability. Help brighten the day and social life of children with disabilities by providing this opportunity they may not otherwise have to build peer relations while exercising.
