Our School is a Picnic!

My students need an 8 foot picnic table to be able to go outside for lunch and learning.

My Students

We have an area outside of our cafeteria that is perfect for outdoor lunch and learning time. We would love to enjoy the outdoors and still be able to cover our curriculum requirements. Fresh air does a body good! This would also allow us to have an outside Munchin' Lunch Bunch for special events.

Our campus is one of 2 intermediate schools (grades 5 and 6) in our district.

We serve a diverse population of mostly Hispanic, Caucasian and African American students. We are a Title I school and are working hard to improve our students self esteem and overall view of education. Our kids come from a variety of backgrounds and economic levels. We are a small but growing community in North Texas. We are trying to give our students more experiences and positive reinforcement to encourage our kids to be role models for each other and the community. We have to be creative and this project is one of those ideas!

My Project

How is an 8 foot picnic table going to help our kids? We want to share our love of learning with our students. Part of that process is thinking outside the box. We have a perfect courtyard outside of our cafeteria. We have already purchased bird feeders to go in the area. Our Science teachers will use the area for experiments and outdoor observations. We are hoping to be able to purchase weather equipment for the area in the future to allow the students to collect real world data. Art is excited to be able to get outside and do some messy art projects. Reading/Language Arts classes will use the area for independent reading time and to write about the world around us. Math and Social Studies as well as everyone else on campus is excited to be able to get outside on a beautiful day to do our daily lessons! We will also use the picnic table for Munchin' Lunch Bunch as a reward for students during lunch times. We hope to add more tables in the future, but we have to start somewhere.

Your donation will allow us to get outside in the fresh air and clear out the cobwebs!

Our classroom windows do not open in our building so fresh air is in short supply!This picnic table work area will allow us to enjoy the world around us while still learning and growing!
