My Students

Teenagers with ADD as well as many other disabilities need alternatives for learning. Getting the students to want to learn is not easy. The itouch can make this easier. It will meet their individual educational needs as well as hold their interest with the technology involved.

Imagine nonverbal, Pre-K level students in the same classroom as grade level functioning 10th graders(and everything in between).

In fact we can serve the students until they turn 22 years old. We are an alternative learning behavior program. All students have disabilities and are at severe risk with behavior and/or emotional challenges. The biggest challenge for me with these students is to not only meet the needs of their disabilities, but to inspire them with new and alternate ways of achieving goals. It's hard enough to motivate high school students without disabilities these days. Many of my students could be mistaken to be socially "normal". Meaning, until you get to know these students you may not even know they have a disability. They like to be "cool" and want all the new "cool" things on the market. Blending learning with something "cool" could be great!

My Project

Students will be able to use ipod touches to complete the assignments for the day via education apps that are available for purchase. The Apple website lists all of the education apps that cover virtually all needs in my classroom. There are Pre-K phonics apps to writing essay apps. There are counting apps to algebra (and higher level learning) apps. Social studies apps can be used for country reports, current events, presentations etc. Health education apps can be used not only for biological and anatomical assignments, but for exercise and counting calories. With the itouch I will be able to pick virtually any assignment for my students and use an app to make it interesting, current, and relevant for my students.

Donations to my project will be very much appreciated and will immediately make an impact in my classroom.

Students will be much more eager to complete assignments using new technology they will be extremely excited to use. The itouch will serve all students in my classroom. As I mentioned previously, there are a huge range of cognitive and social functioning levels in the same classroom. These touches will increase student motivation and learning while having fun!
