The Happy Harold Gang Reading Club

My students need leveled readers and a storage cart.

My Students

"I just love to read," is what I want every child in my class to say. The students will be able to select a book that they can successfully read and choose an extension project after they have read the book.

The Happy Harold Gang has the happiest kids in our school!

The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is designed for students who have the lowest 10% reading score in the school. Unfortunately, many of these students are from homeless families, are foster children or are children that live at the poverty level. My students are the most grateful children I have ever met. They made excellent academic growth this year and I believe they can make more progress next year. They are eager learners who try with all of their heart to learn every day.

My Project

My students need leveled readers and a leveled library storage cart, so that I can create an after school program that will target my at-risk students. The students will be able to browse through books at their reading level and interest. Each child will have a journal where they record each book that they have read. They will be assessed on fluency and comprehension by creating a special project, such as a story map, dramatization, or art project, or they can share the story with the class. My objective for the program is for children who have difficulty reading to begin to become confident with the reading process.

This program will facilitate a great need for every student in my class.

It is difficult to find books that consistently flow from one reading level to the next. When a child begins to decode words and begins to read the whole world opens up to them. A young struggling reader has difficulty with every subject in school. The reading club will be designed to teach children to read and enjoy the process.
