My Students

30 students, three computers? When you do the math, you soon realize that my students will not be getting much computer time. In this day and age (where technology is the key to a successful future), daily, meaningful computer time is a must have for any student.

I currently teach twenty motivated students, but next year my class size will jump to thirty!

To best meet the needs of individual students, I will be grouping students to work in centers. One center will be "Tech Star Time", where students work individually on skill-based activities coordinated to our literature series that reinforce the key California standards in language arts. Each "Tech Star Time" contract will engage students through links to external websites, PowerPoint presentations, and games (just to name a few) that reinforce what each student needs to build a solid foundation in third grade.

My Project

My problem is that I don't have enough classroom computers, nor the funds to purchase more. The solution is to use my existing PC with NComputing, which taps into the unused capacity of my current PC through virtual desktops. Not only is it a less expensive solution, but it is an earth-friendly solution as well. NComputing typically reduces purchase costs by 70% and provides a 98% reduction in e-waste. Instead of having to purchase six individual computers, I can expand the capability of my current PC with five monitors, keyboards, and mice. Each student will be able to run their own applications - and have their own files, settings, and preferences - without the cost of a dedicated PC. With students actively engaged in meeting their learning goals through technology, I can get more individual teaching time with my students.
