My Students

My students struggled to stay organized this year, and next time I want to help them from the very start! New five star notebooks and folders will help give all of my students the jump start that they deserve.

I learned from my first year teaching that coming up with school supplies at the beginning of the year was a huge struggle for my students.

Many of them had to plan when they were going to take the bus out to Wal-Mart (quite a ways away) in order to get all of the supplies that they needed. About half of them still hadn't been able to obtain the notebooks that I requested they buy over a month into the school year. This limited the ability for me to keep my students organized and to conceptualize the framework of our year. When my students have brand new notebooks and folders, they will be able to take pride in keeping their notes organized and will be able to efficiently take home materials from class to study.

My Project

I am planning on using an interactive notebook format next year. What that means is that I will have staplers and tape at every row of desks. Students will be able to tape in graphic organizers and pictures while they take the notes around them. Work that they turn in to me will be returned and stored in their "Completed Work" folder. Homework will be completed in the interactive notebook and stamped each day upon completion. By using interactive notebooks, students will be able to compile the many angles from which we attack a topic -- the visual, the linguistic, the spatial, and the tactile.

When you open a brand new notebook for the first time, there is always an incredible sense of possibility.

I want my students to see the next year as a new chance at learning. In addition, I want my students to become reflective learners and be able to look back at the work that we have done together in order to improve.
