My Students

Help!! We are tired of just practicing c-a-t in a boring way! Phonics can be fun and exciting so that learning seems effortless for my younger students. My students beg me for more Reader's Theater's and we just don't have enough to use. They excite my students and will put more effort into reading.

My students attend an elementary school in a downtown urban setting located in upstate New York.

They come from backgrounds that sometimes don't provide them with everything they need to come to school. They are in need of many things but are resilient. They learn best using hands-on materials that challenge their minds and make it fun to learn.

My Project

I have requested a phonics activity station for hands on learning, reading comprehension activities, non-fiction stories and reader's theaters scripts to develop skills for understanding concepts. All these materials encourage the students to work with a partner or in a small group. These resources will allow my students to learn phonics, read fluently and comprehend through exciting ways. The students will learn to work together cooperatively using games and stories to read with each other. My students are from different grade levels so they have various abilities and learning styles.

I am an Academic Intervention Service (AIS) provider for grades K-5.

My students come to me lacking in the basic skills needed for them to be successful in their classrooms. For whatever reason they are not grasping the material the way it is being presented. My job is to teach them the skills they need to become independent learners who love to read. That is my goal. Using different resources will provide them with alternative ways to learn these skills and become successful readers.
