Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Would you sail the open seas on an Earth some thought was flat? Would you jump in a rocket and head to Mars to start a new life? These are some questions our 5th grade class asked during our study of Christopher Columbus, the Columbian Exchange and the future they may come to know.

Our 5th grade class is made up primarily of second language learners.

We have found that our children's learning experience has increased substantially when we incorporate any type of visual display. This is why we are asking for markers and chalk. Not only do we use the markers and chalk for art, we also use the color to help with grammar lessons. It is sometimes hard for second language learners to gain understanding of root words, prefixes and suffixes, so to help with this skill the students break down words with color. The markers and chalk help our students extend their vocabulary with a valuable skill that will help them for the rest of their lives. The flash drives will be used as storage for pictures that will be taken of their work. One example is the picture displayed. These will be memorable works they can treasure.

My Project

These simple resources are the key to making a huge impact on young lives that truly deserve it! Markers and chalk are truly a luxury to our students. We have learned to use color in any aspect for students to gain better understanding and interest.

These tools will continue to benefit many students in the future.
