Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities," Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote. I want to provide my students with enough educational experiences about the world in which we live.

I am a teacher in a dual language classroom, I teach my students in English and Spanish.

My students come from different walks of life. Some of my students live with extended families in order to make ends meet. Some are considered to be homeless and live in shelters. The only thing that my students have in common is that they love coming to school every single day. When they are sick, their parents tell me that they want to come to school regardless. Considering the community that surrounds our school, which include motels, shelters and gangs, it pleases me to know that my students still want to get an education. My students strive everyday to do their best. They enjoy learning and talking in both languages. My goal as their teacher is for them to become proficient in both languages."

My Project

If you ask a student to name the city they live in, they will most likely name the state in which they live in. I strongly believe that the resources that are included in this project will provide my students much needed background knowledge about this wonderful world. The books on the different continents will give them an introduction to the 7 different continents. The various Social Studies centers will give them the opportunity to be involved in more hands-on activities. Also, I included literature on different historical figures that my students are not familiar with.

History plays such an important role in our everyday lives.

One forgets that nowadays, students do not come with the background knowledge that one might expect. That is why this project is so essential. It will assist my students in building up their background knowledge and maybe changing history in the future.
