Where Do My Books Go?

My students need 20 plastic book bins to keep high interest and leveled books in and 5 focusing phones so that they can hear themselves read.

My Students

Have you ever had some valuable items that you use on a daily basis, but no place to put them? This is the current problem that I am having in my kindergarten classroom. My students have books to read, but no organized place for them. We also have some focus phones, but not enough for every student

My kindergarten students attend a school that is very close to 50% free and reduced lunch.

They have a big appetite for reading and have discovered the enjoyment and excitement of reading independently. My classroom budget is minimal compared to other kindergarten classrooms in my district that are housed in larger populated schools. Supplying a book bin for each student is a necessity that my classroom budget cannot afford me.

My Project

During this past school year, I have worked hard at making and buying new books. I want all of my students, especially students from lower socioeconomically backgrounds, to have access to a classroom library filled with interesting and challenging books. To become better readers, they need to practice their reading skills on a daily basis. My students and I find books that are at their independent reading levels and are interesting to them. The problem arises when they have their 10 to 15 books picked out,but they have no place to keep them during the week. This is the reason why they need book bins. The plastic bins are a perfect way for them to store the books they are currently reading. The extra focus phones will allow every student to use a phone without having to wait for one. Students can listen to themselves read with these phones.

A donation to this project will help my students become better readers.

Good readers need to be organized and the much needed book bins will ensure that my students are organized and prepared to read every day. The extra focus phones will eliminate the problem of students being distracted or upset because they didn't get a chance to use a phone when they need it. Every donation we receive will give my kindergartners the opportunity to learn how to manage their book choices and become better readers
