My Students

Do you remember the first time you found out you were good at something different? Our students love that feeling as we did. I want to introduce disc golf to my students. I want to give them the opportunity to realize they can play a sport other than football, baseball, basketball and soccer.

The majority of my students live in a rural community that strongly supports the local school.

Most of the students come from low income households. We strive academically due to the great leadership of our principal. Many of the students participate in sports, but almost entirely in competitive sports. They love to play and for many P.E. and recess are their most favorite times of the day. Our school population has outgrown our space over the past few years. We have about 1000 students in our K-5 building. The students are always eager to learn a new game or a new skill and enjoy their success when they learn they are good at something new.

My Project

Our community does a great job in offering the children opportunities in sports such as football, baseball, basketball and soccer. However there is a large population of our students that do not enjoy the aspect of a competitive sport. What I would like to do is introduce our students to disc golf. Disc golf is a rapidly growing competitive and non-competitive sport. I what to introduce the game by having a relay activity while using the disc and the baskets. The students will be in several groups spread out equal distances from the basket. They will work with there group and try to be the first group to have all their players make the disc in the basket. Although the activity does require teamwork and cooperation it is also teaching them skills they can use to play disc golf without relying on others and having the burden of letting the team down. This activity requires a disc golf basket and enough disc to separate the class into 10 groups each group has three disc.

Our students love to be challenged and love to learn.

By donating to this project you will be helping over 1000 students learn a new sport and challenge themselves at the same time. Diversity helps children in so many ways and the more opportunities they have to become diverse the better people they will be. My Disc Golf Relay project will open a new world to so many students and you can be the catalyst of their new experiences.
