My Students

Tired of borrowing technology? My students need the use of a document camera every day. They learn more and focus their attention to work when it is displayed larger than life on the screen. It cuts down behavior problems and they stay on task.

I teach kids with learning challenges.

Most of my kids come from foster homes and have been sexually/physically abused. They come to me from residential centers and mental hospitals. They do not have the cleanest clothes or nicest shoes. They do come with emotional problems, ADHD, ADD, Asperges Syndrome, oppositional defiant disorder and other learning disabilities. They often are given everything second hand. Not In My Room! I want these kids to have the best in education and I need my classroom to have the latest in technology and learning resources. I have a budget of $82 a year to spend on supplies for the room as our district is in a budget deficit. I spend a lot of my own money purchasing items for my kids and classroom. I do not mind at all. They need different learning resources than a general education classroom. My kids are not dumb! They just learn and process information in a different way. I just can not afford the technology that they need. Please help me help them be successful.

My Project

My kids have difficulty focusing on anything without a visual. They do not want to look at me. They learn better when they see an example or their worksheet on the big screen. Although they have the same worksheet or book at their desk, they still want to see it up on the wall larger than life. With this document camera I do not have to repeat instructions as often, behavior is better and the room is calm. It also helps with group discussions to see and know that all are looking at the same text or picture. We have 1 doc camera for 6 rooms and I get to use it every 6 days but we need one everyday. It is What They Need to Learn! My kids come to me without skills in money. That is why we need a cash register so that I can teach them how to pay for an item and what change to expect. I also want them to learn how to give change. They will learn the social skill of paying, giving change, saying please and thank you. Just knowing social cues will improve their lives in everyday situations.

It is important to all of us that these special kids are educated with the same technology and resources that regular kids have in their classroom.

It is vital that I, we, give them a quality education that will give them the interpersonal and social skills they need to be successful. If I could do it all, I would, but it takes the world to raise all our kids. So please help me give them a sense of self worth by supplying their classroom with technology and resources they desperately need. Thanks!
