First Lego League, Books and Materials

My students need Lego books for ideas, boxes to store all the Lego pieces, and notebooks to keep track of what they are doing during the FIRST Lego League season.

My Students

Working together is very important in today's world and a great way for students to practice this skill is by being part of a FIRST Lego League team. As a team they learn to work together, solve complex problems and do research to address an issue in their community.

This year I will have four FIRST Lego League teams.

Two teams will practice during an activity class and two will practice after school. We are a middle school in beautiful Western North Carolina. The students that I have in the club are enthusiastic about trying new things and working hard to be a team.

My Project

The mission for all members of a FIRST Lego League team is to work together and understand the importance of what Gracious Professionalism is all about. This is accomplished by 1) building a robot and programming it to solve missions, 2) doing research on a given subject, 3) coming up with a creative solution, and 4) presenting to the judges. Storage bins are to help with storage of the Legos and the notebooks will be used for each student to keep up with what they are working on day to day. The books will help the students learn different ways to build the robots and work together as a team.

For middle school students, it is often not deemed cool to want to learn and solve problems.

Building and programming robots is immediately engaging for the students. They don't realize how much they are learning. They just know they are having fun.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
