My Students

Do you have a favorite story? The story of Wolf is about a wolf who comes to haunt the barnyard. The animals aren't impressed. They are reading. Wolf, wanting to be noticed, learns to read. His transformation is both fun & inspiring. And please help. My 30 students need to file their work.

Our school is made up of a mixture of low income students and immigrants.

Most parents struggle to meet the basic needs of clothing and feeding their children. Many have younger children that they care for during the day. Parents who do volunteer need simple tasks that can be done with children in tow. Contacting parents via phone is also difficult. Many don't speak English and a large number of phones are disconnected. Communication is done through notes home and Wednesday folders. Our teaching bubble extends beyond academics. We teach hygiene, nutrition, and basic organization skills. And we always work to inspire, encourage, and empower our students to achieve their best. Our class sizes are increasing and our support staff is shrinking. With added work, we continue to look for ways to streamline our job.

My Project

The mailboxes will be used to sort student's papers for Wednesday folders and for their portfolios. Each student will be assigned a number. As they complete work, it is my hope that they can be trained to find their mail slot and file their own papers. Wolf will be an inspiring story that students can check out and read with their families. It is my hope that students can share the book with siblings and inspire other young readers.

My goal always is to empower students to take responsibility for themselves and their learning.

Sorting papers and choosing work for their portfolios gives each child a role in his/her education.
