My Students

Help! Our "reading celebration" book cart needs to be re-supplied with a variety of reading levels.

We are a PK-5 elementary school with 85% free lunch.

Our students work hard to meet academic and social goals. Most of our students' families have daily financial and functional challenges. Yet the students come to school with a smile. Our students are the most wonderful, caring kids I've every met. We are a wealthy school of very modest means. We all cherish our celebration assemblies.

My Project

The students have a home reading goal of 15 minutes per night and they keep a calendar that parents initial. At the end of the month we have a reading celebration assembly. Each teacher reads the names of the students in his or her class who have met their goal. Then the principal selects 1 student from each class to get a free book from the celebration book cart. The reading recovery teachers help each child select a book that is a "just right" for them. That's 13 books each month. Our cart needs more books at different levels. The kids are thrilled to get a book of their own.

The kids are proud to stand when their name is read for meeting their reading goal.

The kids who win a trip to the book cart are thrilled to have a book of their own. Please help us refill the cart with many levels of books.
