My Students

The reason I am a chemistry teacher today was mainly due to the demonstrations my former chemistry teacher showed me. I do my best to show my students the same, but it becomes increasingly challenging with larger class sizes. I need to bring them into the world of chemistry with this camera.

The students at this school can be difficult to connect with.

They are all onions that need to be peeled away at before you can finally get to their cores. I've gone through an entire year not knowing that the quietest girl in class looked forward to it the most. I understand this is due partly to many of them coming from low-income families and also from the fact that not every teacher in their lives has lived up to their expectations. I teach all levels of chemistry students at my school and love every minute of it. My school can be challenging at times, but I do my best to let my passion for my subject come through. The best chance I get to do this with is through the use of demos. My students would tell you I'm far too excited as I talk them through the phenomena they are observing. They chuckle and snicker at me, but I know they are enjoying themselves and coming away with a better understanding of chemistry and the world around them.

My Project

The document camera will record and simultaneously display live video through my LCD projector. The need for this camera is twofold: one, I would love to show off the amazing demos I perform through my projector so everyone has the best seat, and two, I would like to work out problems and look at worksheets as a class through a projector. I would no longer need to rewrite that chemical equation on their worksheet back onto the board (thank goodness!). I had the chance once to utilize a simple camera which was great but was unable to focus properly on the beakers and couldn't give enough light to show the vivid colors of the solutions. This camera could change all that! I understand that the resource is expensive, and that many would choose to go for one with a lesser cost. I feel very strongly that my students deserve the best and am willing to put my faith in this.

I've posted several projects on this site, and each time I am amazed and thrilled how you come through for me.

I can only ask you on behalf of my students to please consider donating to this camera. It is a worthwhile investment that will be shared throughout my department. I feel it could help launch their interest in learning and some may find their love of chemistry grow as mine did.
