My Students

Mice for Brains. We need mice for our Fast ForWord lab to complete our Fast ForWord brain exercises. The mice we have came with our very old computers. So not only are they over five years old, they are too big for most of the 60+ students I serve!

I teach the Fast ForWord Reading Program to 60+second graders at a title one school in South Carolina.

The students I serve are from a low-income background. Many of them have no experience with a computer outside of school. When my second graders come to me they are hungry to learn how to read.

My Project

My students need 30 new mice in the computer lab to use during our Fast ForWord class. The Fast ForWord Reading Program I use requires the usage of mice for its many different exercises. Without a properly working mouse it would be impossible to complete some of the tasks involved in the levels. I run my lab all day for up to seven periods a day with usage of the same mice all day every school day. New mice mean less chances of interruption in the program and more chances of selecting the correct answers. More importantly new mice mean less chance of students becoming frustrated with the mouse and then loose focus.

The donation I am requesting for my students will continue in our pledge of preparing our students for a better tomorrow.

In the long run my students will not have to worry about mice keys that stick, "unrecognizable port" messages or a scroll wheel that no longer scrolls.
