My Students

Do you remember what is was like to have to always write down your answers or to work out your problems with paper and pencil or even those old dusty chalk boards?

My students are high poverty fourth graders.

These students come from difficult backgrounds with little or no help from their home life. Regardless of these circumstances, my students make significant efforts to learn and want to be at school. My students want to make a commitment to shaping their own lives despite the lack of academic support given in some of their homes.

My Project

My activity "Getting a Grip with Whit" is a lesson where the students will use the magnetic dry erase boards requested and the dry erase markers requested to work in a cooperative learning environment. The students will be in a 4 group table where they will be numbered 1 - 4. Students 1 and 2 will be a partner and 3 and 4 will partner up. Within these partnerships the students will do a structure where they "Rally Robin Write" Rally Robin is where 2 students will go back in forth discussing answers to a given problem. With "Rally Robin Write" the students discuss and also write on their boards as well. I may give a discussion such as "What do you think of when you hear Fractions?" Student 1 would write down all of their brainstorming ideas of "fractions". Student 2 would do the same. When asked to Rally Robin both students go back and forth listing their written ideas. I can use these boards in other structures such as "ShowDown".

These classroom supplies will make learning fun and creative for the students.

Having these supplies will help with the cooperative learning style I would like to create within my classroom walls to invite social, creative, and innovative learning.
