Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Plant seeds of hope and grow love." Reading and writing empower students help them build confidence in being a successful student and feeling successful.Students need tools to do their job, just as any other person in any other profession.Their business is learning and they want to be excited by it.

I teach a class of multicultural diverse kindergarten students in a low socio-economic area.

Most of the students I serve are English language learners and come to school with Spanish as their first language. Many of these students have never been to pre-school and have little or no readiness skills.Many lack communication skills and life skills. They find it difficult to express their needs, wants, and feelings. Writing gives them the opportunity to express themselves without fear of embarrassment and/or being self conscious. The writing center in my classroom has always been a popular center for students to want to visit. They become extremely engaged in the activities where they are able to independently practice their skills and create their own pieces of work. Great senses of pride are developed through the process of visiting this center and taking part in creating something that is meaningful and authentic. Students enjoy and learn from engaging in hands- on activities.

My Project

The obstacle for me is to provide the necessary materials to provide an exciting center in which the students will flourish. My school is a small primary center with 6 classrooms. With a small school comes a small budget and few resources. The materials I need are learning center materials that the students can use to create their own learning through play and using all their modalities of learning, visual, kinesthetic, and auditory.The materials I am requesting are simple tools that will motivate, encourage, and inspire students to develop their literacy skills through a fun opportunities.The resources will enhance letter recognition, letter formation, phonemic awareness,and print concepts.Students will not only be able to choose the materials they want to use during learning center time,but as well in small group and one-to one instruction.Instruction can be differentiated for students with the variety of resources I am requesting. Using a variety of materials keeps students interest

Students this year & for years to come will benefit from these materials.The difference these donations will make will be that students will have an opportunity to be interested in writing & want to use the materials.The mere fact that materials are engaging will lead them toward being excited about reading and writing.Children are owed and deserve experiences that are fun and interesting.Using pencils,paper,and crayons day after day become tedious and boring!Let's make reading & writing rock!
