My Students

Temple Grandin said "We have got to work on keeping these children engaged in the world". My students need the engagement of new technology to stay involved in their world.

My students are a mixed array of special education students.

They are motivated young people who enjoy learning and new avenues in which to learn. They come from a rural background and small town in Kansas. Students are constantly working on daily living skills and real world situations that will prepare them for life outside the walls of our small school.

My Project

With the iPod touch we will be able to access hundreds of downloaded apps designed for special education. These apps open up entire new ways to learn to my students. We would be able to reach students on a technological level that they are not currently able to access. Apps such as sign language avatars to aide in use of sign language, social stories to aid in good choices, vocabulary builders, math aides and sensory activities such as popping bubble wrap. The benefits to my students of having these apps on an iPod touch are beyond anything we can imagine.

The addition of an iPod touch to my classroom would benefit a large group of students in the special education program.

We would be able to share the device with the other special education teachers in the building as well in order to allow their students to benefit from the device. Having this device would allow us to keep our students engaged with the technology of today, while allowing them to get needed apps that we may not be able to provide in our small town.
