My Students

Mathematics is a field where U.S. students are falling behind in the global market. My students need to be exposed to creative tools that impact their interest in learning mathematics. One way to do that is to reach them on a technology level.

My students need access to podcasts and tutorials to learn mathematics.

This proposal allows them to view uninterrupted digital video segments - either one-on-one, small groups, or whole class. Downloading streaming video is an arduous process with the school bandwidth, so I have been downloading the content at home, saving to one of my 15 flash drives or burning it on Cd's. This iPod would host all of the downloaded content in one place that is available for each of my students to view. This project will influence over 100 students now and several hundred in the future. It is vital that technology be used in the classroom so that our students are on a level playing field with students from more affluent districts. My hope is that my students will love mathematics and know how to apply mathematical concepts to real-world experiences. This is a goal that you can help them achieve!

My Project

Students need to be inspired by mathematics. They are already accustomed to their own technology tools so the classroom should not be a place where technology is not available. They should have access to multimedia content in the classroom since it is what they migrate to. The iPod touch will be one vessel to integrate technology and math into an exciting delivery method. The videos and podcasts that I expect to use will influence their creative problem-solving skills and impact learning in a positive manner.

Getting technology into the classroom is an expensive challenge.

I look for creative funding opportunities to provide technology tools, even piece-by-piece, so my students have the richest learning environment possible. Any donations are appreciated by our future generation of leaders - my students.
