Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When was the last time you were lost in a book that was just right for you? For many of my students, the answer is never because our school doesn't have the resources to buy books on their level. You can change that!

I teach 6th grade in a high poverty area with many ESL students.

My students love to read but because of their economic circumstances, many don't have any books at home. Also, our school has a very limited supply of books that are appropriate for 6th graders. We have run out of books at school and are beginning to read books over again.

My Project

My students devour new and interesting books. They become engrossed with anything they have not seen before. However, after being at the same elementary for 7 years, students quickly run out of things to read that they haven't seen before. By donating to this project, you will not only help to hook some reluctant readers but also keep those that love reading devouring books for years to come. Students will learn that books can take them to places they've never dreamed of and adventures they can't fathom. By having stimulating literature, these students will also be able to become lifelong learners.

Reading is one of the most powerful assets a person can have.

By learning early that books are important and can take you to new places, lives can be turned around. These books will be what converts some non-readers into readers. These books will make students happy. These books will affect future generations. This project will not only influence the 6th graders I have today but also future classes and improve engagement in all 6th graders.
