Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How do earth features influence where people live? What policies should guide our use of earth’s resources? How should we dispose of nuclear wastes? What kind of space exploration should we undertake? The science behind these and related issues are explored by students in Issues and Earth Science.

I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science to a total of 150 students each day in an high-need urban community.

Each day, 7th and 8th grade students return to my classroom excited about what investigation we will be conducting or continuing. It brings great joy to know that not only are they learning, but they are enthusiastic about putting the scientific method into practice. I'd like for my 6th grade classes to also feel the same excitement that the others feel. Our current science program is just not getting the job done. Many 6th grade students leave my classroom overwhelmed by all the information and lecture that our current curriculum calls for. Please help me remedy this by adding SEPUP's 6th grade program to our school.

My Project

Issues and Earth Science is part of a comprehensive three-year middle level science series from SEPUP. The 7th and 8th graders at our school already use the SEPUP program. This program uses societal issues and problems as themes for the study of earth science. It is standards-based and it features an activity-based approach and includes a complete equipment kit that supports up to 160 students before replacements are needed. This program includes a nationally acclaimed assessment program and an embedded approach for supporting literacy in the science classroom.

This donation would greatly impact, not only one 6th grade class, but many more for the years to come.

It will create a continuity among our upper grade curriculum and provide our students the structure that they enjoy in the science classroom. Please consider us!
