My Students

How many of us are visual learners? Imagine second graders being able to improve their reading abilities through the use of pocket charts! They would be able to use them in a whole group lesson and also at individual reading centers.

Our school is a high-poverty school located in the inner-city.

I teach a 2nd grade class consisting of general education students but with a wide range of reading abilities and skills. They face daily challenges in their life both in school and out of school. Reading is something they enjoy doing, but have a difficult time understanding.

My Project

The use of pocket charts will help my students understand reading in a different way. They will help organize information during our reading mini lessons and become a "silent teacher" in our classroom for my students to use in the future. Pocket charts will be able to display different comprehension strategies that will make reading easier to understand for my students. The students will also be able to use these pocket charts in their reading centers. Reading centers is a chance to work individually on the reading skills that have been taught. The students will be able to manipulate the information to help them grab reading in a way that they can understand.

Our school does not provide funds to buy extra reading materials.

This can make it harder for the students to understand and comprehend reading when they don't have the necessary materials. We can benefit from anything you can do to help us. We would greatly appreciate any donation that you could make.
