My Students

Can you imagine writing an essay on the Chinese Cultural Revolution or doing a web search on India's Green Revolution when all you can think about is your hunger pangs? Our lunch period is at 10:30 in the morning; by 4pm, students are out of energy for learning.

Nearly 80% of our students need government-provided free or reduced lunch and breakfast to meet their daily nutrition needs.

There are no snacks to bring from home to help make it through the long afternoon of classes. Some students simply go hungry until the next school meal.

My Project

I learned by trial and error what a huge difference an afternoon snack can make. A simple snack of crackers or pretzels can revive students' energy and enthusiasm for learning. With your help in providing a variety of packaged snack items, students will get the fuel needed to continue with the school day. You can help students focus on learning about their world, its history and its hope, rather than focusing on an empty stomach.

When you think of an animal cracker and your own fond childhood memories, think of the fond memories you can instill in our young generation of economically disadvantaged students.

You can bring the power of food and love to fill a tummy and open a mind to learning.
