That's what I want for my students. I want them to be upset when the 30 minutes for their silent sustained reading is up. My middle school students reside on the top floor of a 5 floor building that houses three schools. The teachers at my school try to keep our students calm and focused even though the schools below them may be a little crazy. One thing we have done to help create a calming environment for our students is to start each afternoon with 30 minutes of silent reading. My Project: The resources I am looking for all fit into the new craze for teens -- vampires. These are well-received and highly touted vampire and vampire-esque series that will help get my students interested in what they are reading. Because many of my students watch the vampire movies and TV shows, they are beginning to show interest in reading the books. By having seven series, there should not only be something to interest every student but there should be enough to go around. My students' reading levels are not all where they need to be. The only way to help them is to get them to read more. To help them do this (as well as create a calming environment), we have created the 30-minute reading sessions. However, my students' levels will not improve unless they find the books that they don't just have to read but want to. hide» My students need 38 interesting books to get them through the daily 30 minutes of silent sustained reading. details» |
