My Students

Seeing yourself on film is an exhilarating experience and it can also provide a much needed platform for Spanish students to immerse themselves in cultures beyond the walls of the classroom.

I teach high school Spanish in Maine to a population of students who do not regularly get a chance to experience the relevancy of a foreign language.

The difficult economic time and lack of school resources prevent my students from getting to participate in projects that relate closely to their everyday lives.

My Project

I have come in contact with a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala and these video cameras would help us communicate orally with middle school students abroad. All groups of students would have equal access to the cameras and the only thing they would need to worry about is the quality of their Spanish instead of the quality of their camera. When students are filming themselves, they are using Spanish outside of the classroom. It provides more exposure for the foreign language curriculum and helps show students how important a second language is.

Spanish students in Maine do not get many chances to practice a foreign language because of the lack of regional diversity.

With your help, I will be able to more aptly prepare my students for the challenge of communicating abroad or even in more diverse areas of the United States.
