My Students: Most of the students in our rural high school are first generation college bound students, and being able to provide virtual college tours and up-to-date admissions/application information with an LCD projector during classroom visits would go a long way towards increasing our college entry rates.

We have great kids in our comprehensive high school, but few of them come from families with college educated parents. We no longer have school district money to take students on field trips to colleges an hour or two away, so many of them have never had the opportunity to visit a college campus and have exposure to the options available to them there. The beauty of providing virtual college tours through an LCD projector in their classroom would bring this experience to all of our students, and open their vision for attending college after high school graduation. Also, using the LCD projector to present info to parents and students about college applications in group settings would be very helpful in getting this information out to as many people as possible.

My Project: If all of my students had visual presentations made to them during class time regarding college, I know it would "light a fire" in their hopes and dreams of going to college. An LCD projector would allow me to have up to date presentations about the college entry process as well as showing students virtual tours of many college campuses. The portability of a projector would allow moving around to classrooms as arranged with teachers, and I could make much more frequent, small group presentations in classrooms where students could ask questions and get counselor feedback to help them head towards their life goals.

With an LCD projector, I will be able to present college information much more easily to 2000 students and their parents throughout the school year. This is priceless, and an opportunity I won't have in my school district because of funding. hide»

Dear Chevron, Claire Giannini Fund and Anonymous Donor,

Thank you so much for funding an overhead projector for me to do my college application and college information meetings this year. I will be attending every 12th grade English class before November 1st to get students ready to submit their college applications on time, as well as meeting with parents of 9th - 12th graders in October to go over important college prep information with them. In spring I will be visiting every 11th grade English class to provide information on SAT testing, as well as choosing the right classes in their senior year so that they will be college ready. All in all - in this coming year I will be using your projector to encourage 1,500 students into college when they graduate from high school, and I expect to do that every year forward.
Thank you again for your generosity and for contributing so much to our youth. I believe in higher education, and looks like you do, too! Thanks so much!!!

With gratitude,
Ms. O.
