My Students

Jacqueline Kennedy once said "There are many ways to enlarge [a] child's world. Love of books is the best of all." Young children love to hear good stories read to them at home and at school. Hearing good, rich stories help children grow in so many ways.

I am the librarian at a public pre-school for at risk students in a low income area of North Carolina.

Our school serves almost 200, four and five year olds. The teachers at my school and I read lots of wonderful stories to the children. We also allow the children to borrow a book from the library each week. Many of these children don't have access to books at home so our library collection is their only source of good books.

My Project

These wonderful books that I have selected will update and add to our library collection. Some of our books have been loved for many years and need to be replaced. Newer titles need to be added to keep our students excited about the stories. These 32 books will be a wonderful addition to our collection.

Reading good books aloud to young children is the best way to build the knowledge and skills that they will need to learn to read.

These new books will help our students develop that knowledge and those skills. They can then be on their way to a lifetime of reading and succeeding.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
