My Students

Unplugged from 8:10-2:40? No way! My students are used to having constant contact with technology through many sources such as cell phones and computers. My current science class is "unplugged" from the outside world and I would like to engage my students with the use of an iPod touch.

I teach 8th grade science at a school consisting primarily of low-income minority students.

My students have the ability and willingness to learn but are lacking the classroom supplies needed for success. Today's teenagers are used to fast-paced, technology rich environments and that is just want I am striving to provide in my classroom.

My Project

If my class receives an iPod touch it will be used daily for extensions and corrections to the curriculum. Students can use it at their desk to participate in a variety of applications that would apply to all 8th grade science content. There are applications for a variety of topics such as a virtual planetarium, a seismometer, measurement conversions, data collection, solstices and more! There is even an application for study island, a website used for standardized test preparation. My students will be able to strengthen individual skills daily in a motivating and engaging way.

My students need a new way to work on basic science skills.

Having an iPod touch will allow my students to reinforce the content in a fun and engaging way. Please donate to help my students "plug-in" during the school day!
