Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A classroom library is vital to every learning environment. My students have not seen a new book added to our library in quite some time. It's time to add literature to our library and give students new choices when picking books.

My school is an inner city public school that serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

The third grade students in my class come from diverse backgrounds. All the students enjoy picking books from the different genres we have in our library. They share books and often will "get hooked" on a specific author introduced in class.

My Project

Students need an opportunity to read many types of literature with success. My classroom library has not had any new literature additions in many years. I feel an addition of a leveled library will give all students an opportunity to read independently. By reading independently using the leveled books, students will add to their literacy knowledge and skills. Additionally I have requested a biography pack for my classroom library. This will allow me to introduce a number of influential people that helped shape our world. When students have a choice of many different books they can read independently with success, their confidence increases drastically. The increase in literacy skills that are built during independent reading not only adds to my students personal gains but to their ability to be successful in district and state assessments.

The project request for new books for my leveled library is one that opens so many opportunities for my students.

I want to give them every opportunity to succeed in my classroom and succeed in life. By funding this project I will be able to continue giving my students literacy choices that will add to their literacy foundation and have a love for many types of literature. I also hope by giving them more choices for books, they will develop personal favorites that they will share with others.
