I want students to be engaged with moving, manipulating, reading, solving, sharing, and teaching to make their learning memorable. There are millions of interactive websites I could use to connect with these students. My students are amazing little people! They are in grades 3-5 in a school that is the 2nd lowest performing school in our NC district. That does not stop them from trying hard to do the best they can. The majority of them are on free lunch and come from low poverty areas near the school. Many of them come from homes where struggling adults are battling loss of jobs, addictions, etc. Many of them go to bed at all hours of the night, some of them with no power or food until they arrive the next morning to receive their free breakfast. All of this would make most of us want to just stay in bed. These kids come to school and try to put their home lives aside so they can become more than where they are from. All of the kids that I work with are below grade level and are hoovering at the line between failure and success. They were chosen to be in these groups because we feel that with some small group help we may be able to push them over to success. My Project: Having a small laptop like the Netbook will allow me to carry it with me as I move from 3-5th grade classrooms for my small groups. I will be able to share a wealth of information, power points, on line activities and games with my students. They will also be exposed to technology which they do not have at home. Students will be able to work on the computer as well helping them gain understanding and confidence with using technology. The Netbook will also allow me to create lessons that I can then display to my small group instead of making copies. There are tons of reading passages on line that we could read together. Our district is cutting back on supplies like paper and we are trying to be more green. This would help with both of those. With the reading materials, I would be able to use these in my small groups. Students would be able to have hands on activities and games to keep them engaged and excited about their reading. Creating stronger readers is my job; these tools will help Please join with me in raising strong readers! Getting these low performing students on grade level is my 100% focus and I need your help to make it happen. We are on a mission to come out from under the label of "2nd lowest performing school in the district!" With your donations, you can help me bring more exciting 21st century learning and strategies to the students I teach. I only get 40 minutes with each group and it has to be filled with the best materials I can find. These students need you. hide» My students need a netbook computer and 5 reading resources, including Vocabulary Games and a Word-Of-The-Day Flip Chart. details»
