My Students

Kids want to learn about the world around them! They need a publication written at their reading and interest level. TIME For Kids is a fabulous magazine that students can't wait to read. Reading for information is the most difficult genre to find quality material for.

My students are sweet, caring kids from great families.

Most are from middle class families who have been hit hard by the falling economy, unemployment, and company downsizing. Michigan is struggling, and the kids feel the crunches within their families.

My Project

I love the look on students' faces when they see this week's edition of TIME For Kids, a student newspaper to help them improve their reading for information skills using current, relevant, age appropriate, and fun articles. The excitement builds as comments such as this are heard: "When are we going to get the new TIME For Kids?" Each magazine is filled with articles, charts, graphs, guess who, world and national news, and important skills that help prepare kids for MEAP testing.

This project is important to my students and me because with the current economic issues facing my school and families, there are no funds for additional supplies, regardless of how fantastic they are.

TIME for Kids is a great bonus that's educational, too!
