Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Why is the sky blue? What makes the sunshine? I don't know, but I would like to find out. My student's ask these questions and many many more. However, it would be awesome to be able to share with them the basics of science.

Our classroom is a part of a public school in a low socio-economic area.

Our classroom is a bilingual kindergarten and the instruction is in the student's native language, Spanish. Native language materials are not readily available nor are they easy to access.

My Project

Many young students like to explore everything around them. They are natural scientists. Having materials such as kits that allow students to explore their senses in the classroom will help encourage their inquisitive natures. Inspiring students may lead to the next Garrett Morgan or Buzz Aldrin. The five senses is a major science topic covered in the science curriculum for this grade level. The sensory materials that this project is requesting will allow students to have an interactive experience with science hence making their experience more concrete and the information more meaningful. Exploring topics that will extend children's natural excitement about things is a very good way to engage and retain their attention while they learn information. Therefore, units that are filled with activities that correspond to their interest is like hitting a home run with bases loaded.

Our science curriculum is supposed to introduce students to the world of science.

However, many of the simple and basic materials needed to explore the elementary science topics are not available to us. Your support to this project would greatly help begin a journey that can tap into the imagination and natural curiosity that children posses.
