My Students

Have you ever felt like you were so close to solving a puzzle, but couldn't find the missing piece? That's what many of my students feel like when they try to read material that is to difficult to decode. They understand conversations, but words on the page all blur together.

My students are people who impress me everyday.

They spend most of their school day trying to keep up. Many of them have fantastic work ethics to keep going, despite their reading struggles. My students also come to me with a wide variety of reading levels. My goal is to design lessons that differentiate instruction to maximize their time on task. My students often benefit from incorporating technology, they may not have access to at home.

My Project

In our classroom we utilize Literacy Work Stations designed to have students practice areas of reading they struggle with at their instructional level. The Ipod Nanos I am requesting would be incorporated into a Reading Fluency Station. Here students would benefit from having audio books read to them as models of strong fluency. Students will also be able to use the Nanos to record their own stories, poems, and plays. Listening back to their own work will help them to find their own voice as a reader and writer. Students will participate in training on how to utilize the technology appropriately, as well as how to care for the equipment to preserve them for years to come.

This project is so important because it addresses the area of reading fluency- a skill many of my students struggle with.

Reading fluently has a huge impact on reading comprehension- the more fluently I am able to teach my students to read, the stronger their comprehension will be.
